about

This track may be re-recorded before being added to the finished "LetThere Be Love" album.

When I was in college, I 'discovered' Reggae . . . listening to KCRW in Southern California. I loved it, and listened to a lot . . . and wrote some . . . including this tune, which I recorded on four-track Tascam cassette recorder at some point in the '80s.

One of those recordings that may need technical improvements, but has some pretty cool stuff about it too . . .

This actually made it to #56 on a worldwide chart!

lyrics

PUPPETS

People on the streets are dancin’ like puppets
But we all know it
We’d love to tell the puppeteers where to shove it
But we can’t do it

We belong to the banks and the politicians
We’re only as free as they let us be
A relatively small number of people
Are pulling all the strings

Puppets, we’re all puppets
Puppets, we’re all puppets

Eyes open, we’re not going through this blindly
And we don’t like it
Always looking, we’re not happy with what we’re finding
But glad to find it

We the people exploited by others
The use us like so many playing pieces
They’re all trying to win at this game
But no-one wins till this game-playing ceases

Puppets, we’re all puppets
Puppets, we’re all puppets

We the people exploited by others
The use us like so many playing pieces
They’re all trying to win at this game
But no-one wins till this game-playing ceases

Puppets, we’re all puppets
Puppets, we’re all puppets
Puppets, we’re all puppets . . . of other
Puppets, we’re all puppets
Puppets, we’re all puppets
