On The Run (They'll Never Catch Me)

from Western Movies by Railtown

/

about

For some reason, I have a fascination with gunfighters. Maybe I just like 'playing' the
'bad guy' since in real life I'm so conservative . . . ? For this song, I was just picturing
this guy running and hiding . . . Although it's different, I did remember a song
from Seals and Crofts called "Dust in My Saddle" . . . a similar storyline.
I'm excited about the potential for the flamenco elements in the recording.
To me, this sort of represents the Spanish element of the old Southwest.

lyrics

ON THE RUN (THEY'LL NEVER CATCH ME)

Damn the ones who won't stop tryin' to track me down
Won't even let me catch my breath
The poster said that they could take me in alive
But I know they really want me dead
I've got to keep on moving
There's nowhere to hide
Truth is I ain't no angel
But there'll be no trial

They've got me on the run
But they'll never get my guns
They're tryin' to take my gold
But they can't steal my soul
They'd like to see me bleed
Or hanging from a tree
But as long as my spirit's free
- They'll never catch me

Curse the day I ever learned to point a gun
I've been in trouble ever since
Spent my share of time on both sides of the law
I must've killed a dozen men
I just shot one too many
That's how it goes
I think I hear them coming
They're getting close

They've got me on the run
But they'll never get my guns
They're tryin' to take my gold
But they can't steal my soul
They'd like to see me bleed
Or hanging from a tree
But as long as my spirit's free
- They'll never catch me

They've got me on the run
But they'll never get my guns
They're tryin' to take my gold
But they can't steal my soul
They'd like to see me bleed
Or hanging from a tree
But as long as my spirit's free
- They'll never catch me
