about

I was making my drive from Nashville to Houston that I made frequently for about a year while gradually making my move. Just into Texas I saw a procession of vehicles in a funeral. It was a LONG parade of vehicles and went a good distance and I was traveling near them for a long time . . . writing this song.

lyrics

LAST PARADE

I see the cars roll slowly by
And it's clear from their headlights
There are saddened souls inside
Tryin' to tell their friend good-bye

They'll follow to his resting place
And see him lowered in his grave
Life has an end, and it's a shame
But this will be his last parade

My day will come, I'm in no rush
But the sun will set, and when it does
Wish I could hear the ones I love
Remembering the man I was

They'll follow to my resting place
To see me lowered in my grave
Life has an end, I'm not afraid
I'll go in style my last parade
