From Tucson To Me

from Moving Pictures by aka Jeffrey Scott Stewart

about

Written with Marghie Evans while she was visiting from the UK back in '98. I don't remember how we met, but I think it was through NSAI somehow. We wrote this at a house that she was 'house-sitting'.

Trace Adkins was big at the time (well, he's still 'big'!) and for some reason I always think of him when I think of this song.

This was before '9/11', so the image we had in mind was that he was at the gate leaving his son behind. Nowadays, he would of course have to say good-bye before going through the security checkpoint. The song still works though. He leaves his son behind in Arizona with his ex-wife, promising to send him a ticket (for a flight) "From Tucson To Me".

lyrics

FROM TUCSON TO ME

I wiped a tear from your eye before I got on board
Flight 209 departed on time
From the desert sky I can’t see you anymore
I’m leaving Arizona to start a new life

Someday I hope you’ll understand
This ain’t the way I had it planned
I know I broke your heart and it’s killin’ me to leave
But I’ll send you a ticket - from Tuscon to me

Remember me when I’m gone and write me now and then
I’ll send my love across the miles
But you’ll stay with your mom and her new boyfriend
None of this makes sense – through the eyes of a child

Someday I hope you’ll understand
This ain’t the way I had it planned
I know I broke your heart and it’s killin’ me to leave
But I’ll send you a ticket, from Tuscon to me

I know I broke your heart and it’s killin’ me to leave
But I’ll send you a ticket, from Tuscon to me
