Don't Keep Leading Me On

from The Poison And The Cure by WispR

about

This is a "Guitar/Vocal" version. This track will be re-recorded before it is added to the finished version of "The Poison And The Cure".

I wrote this song originally in the late fall of 1989. It was not true-life (but you should have seen my first wife's face when I sang it to her! - we divorced in 1990). The song underwent a major re-write with my buddy, the extremely talented songwriter Bill Warrington when I lived in Nashville.

lyrics

DON’T KEEP LEADING ME ON

Why do you lie there in our bedroom at night
Telling me you love me and you'll always be mine

I know the truth, I've got the proof in my hands
Look at these pictures . .. who's that other man?

Don't keep leading me on
Don't whisper pretty words you know I want to hear
Don't keep leading me on
I've opened my eyes and now everything is clear

Over the years I've trusted you with my heart
Now I see you better, and I know how you are

And why you've been gone
– sometimes till late at night
Then when I want to talk
– you want to turn out the light

Don't keep leading me on
Don't whisper pretty words you know I want to hear
Don't keep leading me on
I've opened my eyes and now everything is clear

And I can see what I was not supposed to know
. . . You're letting go

Don't keep leading me on
Don't whisper pretty words you know I want to hear
Don't keep leading me on
I've opened my eyes and now everything is clear

Don't keep leading me on
Don't talk . . . don't talk
Don't keep leading me on
Don't talk . . . don't talk
Don't keep leading me on
