about

Written with my friends and co-writers Larry Vail and Craig Lackey. I believe that Craig came up with the title and maybe (?) the general idea. I was holding the only guitar available and came up with some music - which I have since re-written. Very much a co-write of couse, and it was always fun writing with these guys . . . This was back in 2001, when I was living in Nashville and Larry was still writing songs.

Not sure where this town is . . . it could be in a few different countries even . . . which means it's wherever YOU want it to be!

lyrics

MAYA LINDA

Down on the coast, where coconuts grow
And the breeze blows in from the Gulf of Mexico
There’s a little town where I like to go to this old cafe
There waits the girl with eyes so dark
And the music in her laughter stole my heart
But her papa says I go too far when I start to say

Hey . . . Maya Linda
Sweet, sweet, sweet senorita
Hey . . . Maya Linda
Please be mine . . . Maya Linda

When I’m out with her we’re sneaking around
‘Cause her Papa has his spies all over town
Watching every move ‘cause he wants to know when we’re holding hands
But everyone sees we’re so in love
Anyone around could tell . . . but no-one does
He doesn’t know about the times we’ve gone walking on the sand

Hey . . . Maya Linda
Sweet, sweet, sweet senorita
Hey . . . Maya Linda
Please be mine . . . Maya Linda

Next time I go, I’m going to stay
I’ll ask Papa’s blessing, and then I’ll say . . .

Hey . . . Maya Linda
Sweet, sweet, sweet senorita
Hey . . . Maya Linda
Please be mine . . . Maya Linda
Please be mine . . . Maya Linda
Please be mine . . . Maya Linda
