Jesus In A Bottle

about

"Big Al" was (is?) drummer for Kostas (a well-known songwriter). This was probably the second (maybe third) of a number of songs that Big Al and I wrote together. At first he'd pretty much just give me titles, and I'd write the rest of the song. That's the way it was for this one, but I do seem to remember that he helped me tweak the lyric a little. For the record, we wrote some that way - Al supplied titles - but Al started writing more and more in our collaborations as time went on. He worked REALLY hard at writing, and I saw him become a fine writer.

lyrics

JESUS IN A BOTTLE

I've spent Sunday mornings
Prayin' to porcelain gods
'Cause I worshipped Saturday night
You won't find Jesus in a bottle
- Lord knows I've tried

I sat on a barstool
For years like a darn fool
Tryin' to find peace of mind

But my search is over
Now that I'm sober
I thank God that He's in my life

So I'm here to tell you
Give up your decadent ways
'Cause you're wasting more than your time
You won't find Jesus in a bottle
- Lord knows I've tried

I sat on a barstool
For years like a darn fool
Tryin' to find peace of mind

But my search is over
Now that I'm sobe
I thank God that He's in my life

I've spent Sunday mornings
Prayin' to porcelain gods
'Cause I worshipped Saturday night
You won't find Jesus in a bottle
- Lord knows I've tried

You won't find Jesus in a bottle
- Lord knows I've tried
